Perfect Your Smile With A Tooth Implant
When you’re missing a tooth it can affect your self confidence and dental health. You might hide from the camera or cover your mouth when you’re speaking. If you’ve lost a tooth towards the back of your mouth, you probably have trouble chewing or regularly experience jaw discomfort.
Whatever symptoms you may be facing, our skilled oral surgeons in Oakbrook Terrace are here for you. We offer a number of tooth replacement solutions, including single tooth dental implants.
Why Invest in A Dental Implant
At Smile Big Dental Specialists, we understand the importance of feeling confident in your smile. If you’re self conscious about the way your teeth look, it can impact your life on a daily basis. Additionally, healthy smiles are attractive smiles. When teeth are out of alignment or missing, it can lead to a number of dental issues.
Gapping caused by missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift out of place and elevate your risk of gum disease. Tooth loss can also cause jaw bone deterioration, bite misalignment, uneven dental erosion, and trouble chewing or speaking. You might even notice the tooth opposite the gap in your smile begins to grow longer than it should, unencumbered by an opposing tooth.
If you want a beautiful, healthy smile, addressing tooth loss with dental implant restorations can greatly benefit your oral health.
The Dental Implant Procedure
The dental implant procedure is usually completed in three or more appointments.
The first step involves a consultation. You will visit our office and undergo a thorough dental examination, complete with X-rays. This will enable our team to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants. This will also allow us to fully understand your smile goals and dental health history before creating your custom treatment plan.
Some patients require bone grafting prior to implant surgery. This is only necessary if you’ve experienced jaw bone loss after losing a tooth. If you do require bone grafting, you may have to wait anywhere from 3-9 months for the jaw bone to heal before receiving your implant.
When it’s time for your implant surgery, you’ll discuss your procedure with your oral surgeon. Since the dental implants we use are made of three parts, two appointments are necessary to complete the restoration. Implant components include a titanium implant post, a permanent dental crown, and an attachment mechanism known as the abutment.
During the first stage of your procedure, your oral surgeon will drill a small hole into your jawbone at the location of the missing tooth. This is where the implant post will be inserted. Any remaining tooth fragments will be removed prior to creating the channel for the implant.
After the implant placement, your dentist will apply a temporary crown to the restoration. You’ll need to wait 3-6 months for the area to heal. This time allows the implant and jaw bone to fuse together, creating a sturdy foundation for your final dental prosthesis.
Once the healing process is complete, you’ll come in for your final appointment. Your temporary crown will be removed and an abutment will be placed on top of the implant. Once the permanent crown is applied, you’ll be able to walk right out of the office with a beautiful new smile!
